Sense Companion app for the HTC U Ultra is now available in the Play Store

The HTC U Ultra has finally started to become available in the past week or so, after having been unveiled in January. And as it gets into the hands of eager customers, the company making it has decided to release the much talked about (in marketing materials) Sense Companion personal assistant.

In case youre wondering, no, this isnt built into the software of the device. Its actually an app that you need to install. Its now available in the Google Play Store, so if you have a U Ultra you can go grab it now. Its a bit odd that you need to actively seek out what is one of HTCs key selling points for the phablet, or that its only coming out now despite the phone being already available for a few days. But it is what it is.

The app is a "personal companion that̢۪s always learning from you and the things you do every day", according to the description in the Play Store. What does that mean? W ell, you get a bunch of information cards that can be useful at times - for example a reminder to charge your phone before you leave for a meeting. And with a 3,000 mAh battery paired with a 5.7" QHD main screen and a secondary ticker display, youre probably going to need to take that seriously.

The Sense Companion also shows your weekly step count summary, suggests restaurants to check out on your upcoming trips, and tells you about interesting places nearby. Hopefully more functionality will be baked into subsequent updates.
